WHY SHOULD I GET BAPTIZED?
[Mat 3:5-6 NLT] 5 People from Jerusalem and from all of Judea and all over the Jordan Valley went out to see and hear John.
6 And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River.
[Mat 3:13 NLT] 13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John.
[Luk 3:12 NLT] 12 Even corrupt tax collectors came to be baptized and asked, "Teacher, what should we do?"
[Act 2:38, 41 NLT] 38 Peter replied, "Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.
Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ... 41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day--about 3,000 in all.
Romans 6:1-4 (NLT) 1 Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? 2 Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? 3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? 4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

Baptism is an outward sign of one's inner need for repentance, connection and relationship with God. It is also, if done correctly, the pathway to be filled with the Holy Spirit. When I say correctly, I mean if your heart isn't in the act, then you've just been submerged in water, but not really baptized. Because to be baptized effectively one has to have an internal desire to follow Jesus as Lord. Most of us at some point have been baptized. When we were young or becoming of age, we were taught that baptism was something you just did to fulfill your religious obligations; so we just did it. But we didn't really own the act; it was not reflective of how we truly felt inside. If this defines your baptism experience, I strongly encourage you to be rebaptized, but this time search your heart and make sure that your reasons and motivations for being baptized center around acknowledging that you have fallen short of God's glorious standard, that you have received the gift of salvation but you want more; you want to follow Jesus! Additionally we must understand that baptism is an act of submission. When Jesus was baptized, He went to John the Baptist, and though John felt like Jesus should have been baptizing him, Jesus insisted that John had to baptize Him because baptism is an outward sign of one’s inner submission.. The Apostle Paul taught that when we are baptized ,that we are sharing in the death of Jesus. We are crucifying our old selves along with its old lusts and desires. So when you are baptized, you are acknowledging your need to be one with Christ and your responsibility to come under His authority.
